Graduate Applicants
Please review the following carefully:
- All applicants to the graduate program in architecture must submit a portfolio of creative work.
- Individuals applying to dual degree programs must be accepted in all relevant departments and meet all relevant departmental deadlines.
- Priority admission and scholarship consideration is given to complete Department of Architecture applications received by January 15. The department will continue to accept applications until the fall 2012 class is complete..

Official Transcripts
Official transcripts bearing an original seal of the registrar from all postsecondary educational institutions that you have attended must be sent directly from those institutions to the department office. It often takes 2-4 weeks to complete this process, so be certain to allow sufficient time. Current University at Buffalo undergraduate students need not send UB transcripts, but should send transcripts for any other institutions they have attended.
Three Recommendations
Applicants should identify on the application form the names of persons who will be writing recommendations. You are strongly encouraged to find academic recommendations. Letters of recommendation may be submitted electronically through GRADMIT.
Application Fee
All applications must be accompanied by a nonrefundable check or money order made payable to the University at Buffalo in the amount of $75 (credit card can/should be used for online applications)..
Statement
In 500 words or less, state your current position about the discipline of architecture. Please be specific about influential courses, instructors, books, personal or professional experiences, and goals.
Portfolio
The portfolio is a means of presenting your best work to be analyzed by a review committee. It must be representative of the person submitting it. It stands or falls on its own merit.
Graduate Record Exam
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required.
Resume
Applicants must submit a resume that outlines their work and educational experience.
