Freshman Applicants
For students with no previous postsecondary education experience, the Department of Architecture uses similar requirements for departmental admission at the freshman level as the university uses, including:
- high school average
- completed high school courses
- rank in high school class
- standardized exam scores (SAT/ACT)
In addition, all freshman applicants interested in UB Architecture must complete and submit an admissions design assignment in addition to all other required University at Buffalo application materials. The design assignment will be used to determine an applicant's design skills prior to admission. It will not be used in the review of an applicant's eligibility for admission to the University at Buffalo but will be one of many factors considered in the review of an applicant's eligibility for admission into the architecture program.
All freshman applicants interested in University at Buffalo Architecture must complete and submit a design assignment, located online at http://buffaloarchitecture.coursesites.com/, in addition to all other required University at Buffalo application materials. Upon receipt of the University at Buffalo person number from Undergraduate Admissions, which must appear on each page of the design assignment, applicants will have 10 days to submit their Buffalo Architecture Design Assignment.
All freshmen applicants must visit the Undergraduate Admissions Special Requirements for Certain Majors Web page for additional instructions on applying for freshmen admission to the University at Buffalo.
First-time freshman applicants are notified of the departmental decision at the same time that they are notified of the university's admission decision, and the pre-professional bachelor of science in architecture is a fall-only admission program.
Minimum SAT, ACT, and TOEFL scores are required for studio enrollment.
Contact UB Undergraduate Admissions or School of Architecture and Planning Advisement for additional information.
