362 Performance Programming (2 cr)
Overview of architectural programming process and approaches. Examines the performance concept applied to building design, using human factors as a basis for developing building programs. Introduces research methods used in pre-design activities.
411 CAD 1: Introduction to CAD (4 cr)
Introduces students to basic computer skills and fundamental theoretical concepts in computing and design. Subjects include electronic publishing, image manipulation, introductory CAD, and computer modeling.
Prerequisite: ARC 202
412 CAD 2: Modeling Objects & Environments (3 cr)
Introduces advanced concepts and current research trends in computer-aided design, rendering, animation, and advanced virtual-reality Web publishing. Addresses ways in which advanced computer techniques can be used in support of architectural design and presentation.
Prerequisite: ARC 411
490 - 498 Special Topics
Design-Build Workshops
Introduces students to preliminary design, code research, cost estimating, fabrication techniques, time management, and teamwork in the context of small to medium scale projects.
Facilities Planning
Introduces planning, designing, and managing of facilities so that designed space becomes a tool for achieving organizational goals.
Post-Occupancy Evaluation
Addresses ways to plan, conduct, and use post-occupancy evaluations to assess the influences of built environments on their users.
Photographic Documentation
Addresses photographic techniques involved in documenting two- and three-dimensional design projects. Supplies practical hands-on experience necessary to make informed choices about generating and duplicating photographic images.
Accessible Design
Introduces students to the basics of accessible or barrier-free design. Course begins with a two-week introduction to basic terminology, concepts, and history of accessibility regulations. Students use a computer-based instructional resource to learn the details of accessible design at their own pace.
Investigations in Drawing
Addresses historical drawing practices and investigates new potentials in drawing outside conventional architectural representations. Analyses of precedent drawing practices, reconstitutions of existing spaces and objects through explorations with various modes of drawing, measured drawings, map- making, and orthographic projections, and investigations in perspective projection.
