Shop Policies
In the interest of curricular exploration and respecting faculty pedagogy rights and responsibilities, the following Guidelines on Student Safety are to be maintained:
Safety
All students are required to take the Shop Safety Course and abide by the policies as outlined in the Shop Safety Manual when using shop equipment both inside and outside the facility.
First Aid kits are to be distributed to all studio coordinators (undergraduate) and upper level studio instructors. The kits are to be placed in all studio sections (Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, 31⁄2 year, and upper level studio spaces).
No toxic chemicals or similar materials; or concrete, masonry plaster-type materials are allowed in Crosby Hall, Hayes Hall or other assigned studio spaces.

Tools
Use of shop tools in Crosby, Hayes or other designated studio spaces is limited to the following: hand tools, Makita drills, power sanders.
Faculty shall be responsible for the direct supervision of power tool usage outside of the Materials and Methods Shop when these tools are used in relation to assigned course work.
The Department Office should be informed of any power tool use in courses and/or for particular assignments which necessitate such tool usage outside of the Materials and Methods Shop.
The faculty member(s) supervising power tool use has (have) the responsibility to inform others, in advance of such usage, who may be affected by the noise, dust, etc.
