Academic Standards
The mission of the University is learning and the pursuit of new knowledge. The School of Architecture and Planning encourages and expects its students to pursue excellence in their programs of study. Accordingly, the Department of Architecture does establish a minimum grade point average for continued enrollment at this School.
Minimum GPA/QPA
Students must maintain minimum academic grade point averages to remain in good standing in the architecture program. These are the minimum levels:
- Undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA overall and a 2.5 in Architecture to remain in good standing.
- Graduate students must maintain a cumulative QPA of 3.0 or above in order to continue in the program and graduate with an M.Arch. Degree.
Failure to maintain these minimum GPA/QPA levels will result in students being placed on academic probation. Continued academic probation for more than one semester will result in dismissal from the program at the discretion of the chair.
Student Reviews
In addition to minimum GPA/QPA levels, students will be reviewed at the end of the first and second years. This review will establish the student's eligibility to continue to the next level in the undergraduate program. All students will be required to submit a portfolio at the completion of each studio for faculty review.
Design Studios
In addition to all minimum GPA levels, all undergraduate and graduate students are expected to make satisfactory progress in Design Studio. All undergraduate students must earn no less than a C- in design studio. Any undergraduate student who receives a grade lower than C- must repeat the studio before taking the next studio. All graduate students must earn no less than a C in design studio. Any graduate student who receives a grade lower than C must repeat the studio before taking the next studio. This means dropping out of the design studio sequence for a semester. All Incomplete (I) grades in ANY studio must be completed before registering for the next studio. Grades of D (+/-) in ANY TWO STUDIOS results in the student’s dismissal from the program. A grade of F in any design studio also results in dismissal.
