Studio Registration
For all continuing Architecture students who wish to take the next semester’s Design Studio:
- The department has instituted a new procedure for upper level studio registration. Beginning with the Spring 2007 semester, all students in the 2-year M.Arch. , the third and fourth years of the 3.5 M.Arch. program, and students in the 1.5 year M.Arch. must notify the department of their studio registration intentions. A form will be available in the department office and must be completed and returned by the end of the first week of class in either the fall or spring semester. If you do not return the form by the due date, we cannot guarantee a studio slot for you in the next semester. This new procedure does not apply to the first 2 years of the 3.5 M.Arch. program.
- Graduate students should register for only graduate courses (500 level or above). Lower division courses (100-400 level) cannot be used as graduate credit towards the M.Arch. degree. Please check your schedule cards carefully to verify the courses for which you are registered.
- All students should check their schedule cards to verify that they are registered for the correct level Design Studio. Incorrectly registered studios may delay degree conferral.
- Statement on Undergraduate Studio Enrollment: Students admitted to the preprofessional Bachelor of Science in Architecture (B.S. Arch.) must complete the appropriate design studio (ARC 101-102, ARC 201-202, ARC 301-302, ARC 403-404, ARC 406) each semester to maintain continuous enrollment in the B.S. Arch. academic program, unless a student is approved for a studio leave of absence by the Department of Architecture. Studio leaves of absence are often approved for students with medical, legal, military, or other extenuating circumstances as reviewed by the Department of Architecture. Design studios are open to admitted B.S. Arch. majors only.
- A student who resigns design studio with an "R" (resign) grade without prior approval for a studio leave of absence will be disqualified from the B.S. Arch. Disqualification shall mean that the student is prohibited from taking additional design studios offered by the Department of Architecture. Disqualification will not occur if a student is on an approved studio leave of absence for medical, legal, military, or other extenuating circumstances.
- A student who has been disqualified may apply for re-entry through the Undergraduate Transfer and Re-Entry Application Form. The student may supply evidence of experience and academic coursework during the break in studio enrollment that may better prepare the student for additional design studio studies.
- The Department of Architecture advisement office also reviews undergraduate student requests for exceptions to registration: late registration, adding or withdrawing from courses after the University at Buffalo's prescribed deadlines, and exceeding the University at Buffalo's 19-credit-hour limit.
