Professor Edward Steinfeld holds a professional degree in architecture from Carnegie Mellon University. He completed post-professional and doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. Steinfeld’s research focus is universal design, human factors, and social theory and design. He is founding director of the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access (IDEA) and Principal Investigator for the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Universal Design at Buffalo based at the IDEA Center. He also co-directs teh RERC on Accessible Public Transportation. He recently received the second annual President’s Award for Faculty Excellence at the University at Buffalo. Other awards include a Distinguished Professor Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and a National Endowment for the Arts Design Research Award.  Dr. Steinfeld  has over 100 publications and has served as an expert consultant on issues of accessibility for the World Bank, the New York City Housing Authority, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and for private corporations and firms nationwide. Steinfeld is a registered architect in New York State and member of the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and the American Institute of Architects.
