Urban Design Project
The Urban Design Project (UDP) is a service, teaching, and research center devoted to the critical practice of urban design. Founded in 1990 by Professor Robert G. Shibley, the UDP serves the region by bringing faculty and urban design students together with local governments, community-based organizations, and citizen groups to make better places and stronger communities. Students participate in the UDP through urban design studios, community design service internships, and work opportunities related to major research and professional projects. Recent projects include heritage planning and cultural tourism for the binational Buffalo-Niagara region, strategic planning for the City of Buffalo and the City of Niagara Falls, and urban designs for the Lake Erie waterfront.
