Anthropometrics of Disability is a new report that is now available. Anthropometry is the science of measuring body characteristics. Such measurements are the basis for most accessibility codes and are used to design products and systems with which people interact. The report is a summary of the proceedings of an international workshop on anthropometry for people with disabilities. The workshop was help in Buffalo in June of 2001. The report describes advances in the state of the art in anthropometry, the challenges of measuring people with disabilities and recommendations made by the experts at the workshop.

Visitability:an Approach to Universal Design in Housing, is a new 48 page resource offering a complete overview of Visitability requirements, philosophy and resources in United States, and contains "best practices" case studies highlighting successful implementation of specific Visitability projects in several different communities nationwide.

The new booklet was compiled and developed as a publication of the RERC, with the assistance of Habitat for Humanity chapters in both Buffalo and Rochester, NY the grass-roots advocacy group Concrete Change in Atlanta, Georgia and funding provided through the grant -- which in turn receives its funding through the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).

Universal Design New York is a book published by the New York City Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities. This book serves as a guide for public agencies and environmental design and construction professionals to address the growing need for universally designed environments. The goals of this publication are: to raise awareness about the value of universal design, provide practical examples of how universal design can be implemented, and encourage the adoption of universal design.

Enabling Environments This collection focuses of methods for measureing the role of the physical environment in the disablement process and the limitations of current theory . Knowledge and research in the field, linking the chapters is a new paradigm of research of accessiblity, which emphasizes that disablility is both a social and individual process and is consistent with recent developments in a disabilitym, rights, rehabilitation practice and environmental design.

Primer on Accessible Design is a 70 page booklet with illustrations provides a basic foundation on accessible design. It includes an introductory chapter on the laws for accessible design including a discussion of their historical development. The rest of the book is devoted to technical design material with an emphasis on explaining the reasons behind design guidelines. These chapters cover site design, building circulation, toilet rooms, dwelling units and communication systems. The emphasis is on general principles and good practice solutions rather than literal presentation of code requirements. The Primer can be used independently or in conjunction with Designing Accessible Environments.
