Monteverde Institute, Costa Rica: Sustainable Futures

This ten-week, interdisciplinary summer program offers up to 13 credits to participating students in planning, architecture, and landscape architecture from UB, the University of Maryland and other schools across the country. Students live in a rural but rapidly developing region in the mountains of Costa Rica, working with local institutions and groups on projects they define. Among past projects are conservation easements, land use planning, building additions, youth recreation planning, and community public health. The curriculum involves a studio plus up to two additional seminar courses.
