Douglas Levere
The work of Doug Levere, B.A. Design Studies '89, was reviewed recently in an extensive article in the New York Times. His work is featured in the exhibition, "New York Changing: Douglas Levere revisits Berenice Abbott's New York," which will be on view in the Museum of the City of New York on Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street until November 13. The show presents 50 cityscapes from the Modernist photographer Berenice Abbott's 1939 book, Changing New York, and each is paired with a photograph shot by Doug between 1997 and 2003 from the same perspective and using the same model large-format camera. The review in the New York Times noted that "Mr. Levere's project is impressive as a feat of photographic craftsmanship and professional stamina" and went onto to highlight his pictures which "in combination with hers do convey the experience of ongoing flux and of multiple histories interpenetrating in the big city....he is a diligent archivist whose efforts are determined by procedural and problem-solving imperatives." We hope that alumni who are in New York City will go to see the exhibition.
