DMG Digital Workshop

The new Digital Workshop in the School of Architecture and Planning is located in Crosby Hall, room 52. It provides a range of the latest equipment dedicated to material research, model making and fabrication.

By providing this latest digital technology, as well as a new visualization laboratory in Hayes Hall and a fully equipped Materials and Methods Shop, the school expands the range of choices for students to visualize, fabricate and test their ideas that substantially expand their design skills and potential.

Laser Cutter

The Digital Workshop includes a Universal Laser Systems X2-600 Laser Cutter which allows students to cut wood, acrylic and chip board and enables them to experiment with materials and fabricate models quickly and accurately.

Stratasys 3D Printer

The 3-Dimensional SST printer manufactured by Stratasys makes it possible for students to build computer generated models up to 8 inches by 8 inches by 12 inches using ABS plastic, and provides them with capabilities in rapid prototyping.

zCorp 3D Printer

The Spectrum Z510 3D printer from zCorp provides high resolution, 24-bit color 3D printing in a large build area of 10” x 14” x 8”. The high-performance composite material provides a low cost and fast mechanism for interim study models as well as final project models.

AXYZ CNC Router

The AXYZ Millennium 1500 CNC router table with its 59” x 39” bed size and 6” z-axis supports the generation of full size prototypes and models in wood and foam board.

3D Scanner

The NextEngine desktop 3D scanner automatically creates CAD models of small objects. The scanner allows the creation of digital models of small physical models generated manually or from 3D prints which have been altered, supporting the dynamic flow of design processes between physical and digital techniques.
