"Maybe you want to make the world - especially your part of it - a better place."
Maybe you love cities. Maybe you appreciate the stunning beauty and efficiency of a natural ecosystem. Maybe you seek to understand and shape growth trends affecting your metropolitan region. Maybe you wish to apply emerging information, media, and visualization technologies to environmental and economic challenges. Maybe you want to design and implement policies to revitalize cities. Maybe you want to empower and provide new opportunities for impoverished villagers in a developing nation. Maybe you seek to promote international competitiveness. Maybe you like old buildings, new ideas, and complex challenges. Maybe you want to make the world—especially your part of it—a better place.
Our department is committed to offering you a high-quality, intellectually stimulating, professionally top-notch education to realize your academic and career goals. We offer not only the breadth of general knowledge— understanding urban and regional change, and gaining skills in analysis, computing, and written and graphic communication—but also the depth of specialized information—in community development and urban management, economic and international development, environmental planning, urban design, and GIS and planning technologies. We also offer an outstanding laboratory for planning analysis and action, the binational Buffalo Niagara region.
I invite you to browse our site, which offers information on our setting, our faculty, our resources and research, and our degree programs, the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design, the graduate Master’s in Urban Planning, and, together with the Department of Architecture, a dual M.U.P./M.Arch. degree. In 2005-06 we anticipate final state approval of a new dual degree program to be offered with the UB Law School, an M.U.P./J.D.
I welcome your interest, involvement, and inquiries, and invite you to join us in studying planning at Buffalo.
